PRESIDENT'S WELCOME

I remember all too well the overwhelm and stress of my freshman fall. A feeling developed because of the difficult coursework, the thought that I was somehow already behind, and all the incorrect advice. It felt as though the “premed” puzzle had hundreds of pieces of which I understood none.

I rushed PhiDE at this time, borrowing dress shirts and heels from friends as I had somehow forgotten to pack those as well. The welcome and the sense of belonging that I felt from the PhiDE community at my very first event was incredible; something that only magnified over the years. As I received my bid, I knew I had 75 new mentors, supporters, and friends.

As a senior now, I realize that “premed” is not a puzzle to be built with specific pieces to collect; rather, it is a painting that each individual must craft themselves. There is no set formula required, but there surely is a level of confidence and sense of self that is pertinent to making medicine one’s own. It is an arduous and difficult process, yet it is not impossible by any sense. The PhiDE community has allowed me the supportive space and mentorship to define medicine as my own.

It is not technical skill PhiDE hopes to develop through our suturing workshops, CPR workshops, admissions lectures, volunteer opportunities, interview workshops, medical student panels, and mock symposiums; it is to cultivate a highly sought-after genuine community which is rare to come about in such a competitive environment. Our alumni connections, international network of thousands of medical doctors, and major corporate sponsorships with Kaplan, Farmers Insurance, the US Army, and multiple others expand this community.

PhiDE recognizes that medicine is multidisciplinary at its core, because that is what enables culturally competent, innovative physicians and accessible care. We embody this principle. Our Anatomy Fashion Show 2026 brought together models, designers, and performers to exemplify that cutting-edge fashion is also medicine. We welcome premedical students of all backgrounds, skill sets, and interests to our organization because of this principle.

I am honored to serve as President of the MO Gamma chapter of PhiDE and to continue to strengthen an organization so dear to me. I speak on behalf of the executive board and all members as I invite you to connect further with us, explore our mission and values, and take advantage of every opportunity we offer.
